Kevin Gibbs focuses his practice on all aspects of trademark law, including the selection and clearance of new trademarks, trademark applications and prosecution, global brand portfolio management, licensing and assignments, trademark protection and enforcement, and general trademark counseling. He provides his clients with strategic and cost-effective advice to help develop, protect, and grow their brands in the U.S. and internationally.
Mr. Gibbs has many years of trademark experience representing all types of clients ranging from individuals and start-ups to some of the world’s largest companies and most famous brands. Mr. Gibbs has provided trademark advice to individuals and businesses across almost every industry (e.g., food and beverage, entertainment and media, finance, health and wellness, pharmaceutical, fashion, professional sports, insurance, software and technology, cosmetics, consumer products). As a result of his broad trademark representation, Mr. Gibbs understands that every trademark client is unique and that the common, cookie-cutter approach to trademark protection does not lead to the desired results. Mr. Gibbs considers all factors to provide his clients with specifically tailored trademark advice that is designed for their individual goals.
In addition to his trademark practice, Mr. Gibbs regularly advises clients on other intellectual property and brand-related matters, including: copyrights, domain names, advertising, NIL (name, image, and likeness), rights of publicity, social media, internet takedown requests, IP due diligence, and drafting and negotiating contracts. Kevin has assisted and successfully resolved trademark, copyright, and domain name disputes across several jurisdictions and forums, including litigation in U.S. courts, trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and domain name disputes (UDRPs) within multiple international organizations.
Prior to joining Kim IP, Kevin worked as an IP attorney at two leading Philadelphia-based law firms. Most recently, Kevin was an associate in Dechert’s nationally-recognized trademark and copyright group, where he gained invaluable experience and training working directly with some of the top-rated trademark attorneys in the country. Before his legal practice, Kevin attended Philadelphia University (currently Thomas Jefferson University) where he played on the school’s baseball and golf teams before graduating magna cum laude with a degree in mechanical engineering. He applied his engineering background for several years while working as a quality assurance specialist for the Department of Defense in the medical division of DLA Troop Support. While working full-time, Mr. Gibbs attended Rutgers Law School (Camden) part-time at night, graduating magna cum laude. While in law school, Mr. Gibbs interned as a law clerk for the presiding judge of the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division.
